Oregon Travel News: Gas Prices Lower, Biggest Loser Show in Portland

Published 05/18/2010

(Portland, Oregon) – For those with a lot of extra pounds to lose, NBC’s "The Biggest Loser" will be in Portland this weekend. For those traveling around the state, fueling up just got a little cheaper.

The Oregon office of the AAA said retail gas prices continue to come down, even though Memorial Day is less than two weeks away.  The national average for regular unleaded falls four cents to $2.86 this week, while Oregon’s average drops a penny to $2.97

“On Monday, the price of crude oil fell to $70, the lowest it’s been since mid-December,” said AAA spokesperson Marie Dodds. “Pump prices have been somewhat slow to follow in comparison, but they are starting to drift lower, and that’s a trend that’s likely to continue in the short term in light of the steep drop in oil prices.”

If you’re one of the millions in the U.S. considered obese, and you live in Oregon, the show The Biggest Loser will be in Portland as one of their trainers will reveal some of the contestants who will be on season 10 of "The Biggest Loser."

That's not all: Portland will be given a fitness challenge led by either Bob or Jillian and the show said it wants as many people there as possible.

“You can be but don't have to be overweight,” said show officials in a press release. “It is not just about our contestants anymore, it is also about you and the millions of Americans who deserve to change their lives. Although this is not a casting call, our casting team will be there and want to hear your stories. Who knows, you just may be on a future season of the show.”

The show will be filming at Tom McCall Waterfront Park on Thursday, May 20.

Make sure to wear proper work-out attire with no visible logos. You must be at least 18-years-old in order to participate in the fitness challenge but kids are welcome to come. The first 300 people to show up at each city will get a Biggest Loser t-shirt! There will be a maximum occupancy so make sure to arrive on time!

You need to plan on being there for around 6-8 hours (eat before you come; bring healthy snacks and water).
