Irish Castle Goes All Harry Potter for Halloween

Published 09/22/2010

(County Mayo, Ireland) - Harry Potter's magical world of witches and wizards will materialize this Halloween at Ashford Castle, where families are invited to a special one- or two-night "Hogwarts Halloween" program.

Although the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is fictional, accounts of magic, hauntings and sorcery at Ashford Castle span over the past 700 years, since the castle was first built in 1228, so one never knows what may happen on its grounds. The property's secret rooms, hidden alcoves and mystical setting among secluded woodlands also make it an ideal setting for magicians in the making - or for anybody looking for an extra spook this Halloween.

The special "Hogwarts Halloween" program is available from October 22-30, and includes:

October 22, 26, 28, 30. Noon - "Forbidden Forest" treasure hunt for entire family. 3 p.m.:  Visit to the hiding place of Dingle, Ashford Castle's resident owl (supervised). 4 p.m.  Afternoon Chamber of Art (supervised).

5 p.m. – 6 p.m. It’s Kids' dinner in the Ardilaun Suite (supervised). 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. - Harry Potter movie evening (supervised). From 7 p.m. it’s George V Table d'Hôte dinner for Mom and Dad.

October 23, 25, 27, 29. Noon - "Hidden Garden" treasure hunt for entire family. 3 p.m. - "House Elves" cooking class (supervised). 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. - Afternoon Chamber of Witchcraft & Wizardry (supervised). 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Kids dinner in the Ardilaun Suite (supervised). 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Harry Potter movie evening (supervised). From 7 p.m. it’s  George V Table d'Hôte dinner for Mom and Dad.

The one-night package is priced at €495 (approximately US$647), and the two-night package is priced at €950 (approximately US$1,243). Both are based on two adults and two children under the age of 12, however an additional charge of €85 (approximately US$111) per night may be applied for each additional child.
