Greek Eco-Tourism Adventure Includes Working with Sea Turtles

Published 03/21/2010

(Boulder, Colorado) - Adventure tour operator inside/out announces a one-of-kind sea turtle volunteer adventure exclusive to its travelers. The Zakynthos Humanitourism experience includes a sea turtle conservation project and active eco-tourism adventure on the island of Zakynthos, Greece from June 3 through June 16.

The Zakynthos Humanitourism adventure was developed expressly for inside/out's clients by special arrangement with the Greek sea turtle conservation organization Earth Sea Sky. Volunteer opportunities with sea turtle work on Zakynthos are typically limited to longer-term individual placements.

Zakynthos is the primary nesting grounds for the endangered Mediterranean Loggerhead Sea Turtle. The project work will focus on the construction of a sea turtle rehabilitation center on the island, monitoring sea turtle nesting activity and a beach clean up.  inside/out's tour will also include a trekking, snorkeling and sailing adventure on and around Zakynthos and additional volunteer work at the Archelon Sea Turtle Rescue Center in Athens.

"This opportunity for sea turtle conservation and adventure on Zakynthos is a unique privilege only available to travelers with inside/out," said inside/out founder Zoe Katsulos. "We are excited about being the first and only company to provide a small group experience in this adventure of a lifetime."

This best of land and sea tour from inside/out provides a unique destination for adventure travelers to participate in hands-on volunteer work with sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation. The Humanitourism adventure also offers an intimate look at an alternative Greek island destination through both the volunteer work and adventure.

Humanitourism combines humanitarian project work with active adventure travel, allowing travelers to connect more authentically to the people, land and culture they visit. Humanitourism also includes a philanthropic component, where a portion of trip costs are designated to the project being served.

Following their volunteer work on sea turtle conservation and rehabilitation projects, inside/out's travelers to Zakynthos will gain further insight into the country and culture by partaking in various adventure activities on the island. Adventure activities include a trek up Mt. Skopos, snorkeling and a two-day catamaran sailing tour of the Ionian Sea where passengers have the option of actively learning and participating in the sailing of the vessel or relaxing and enjoying the sea tour.

Travelers will stay in small local eco-village accommodations on Zakynthos that are family-owned and operated. Food is all locally grown and organic. The trip will be suitable for solo travelers, couples and friends as well as families.

No special skills or knowledge are required. More details can be found at www.theinsideandout.com. For more information, contact inside/out by phone or email: 303-517-3400 or info at theinsideandout.com.
