Published 07/15/2013

(Salem, Oregon) – Oregon is home to some of the more prominent makers of wine and beer in the United States, and the upcoming Oregon State Fair would like to show that off from the ground level. Oregon officials are putting out the called to state winemakers and home brewers to compete for top honors at the Oregon State Fair's Amateur Wine Competition and Homebrew Beer Competition this summer.

The Oregon State Fair's Amateur Wine Competition is sponsored by Chemeketa Community College's Northwest Wine Studies Center, and it welcomes with open arms those aspiring winemakers from across Oregon to this high-profile competition.

Judges will award blue, red, and white ribbons within each classification on August 9-10. Blue ribbon winners will receive a ticket to Pairings! A Celebration of Oregon Wine, Cuisine & Music, set from 4 to 9 p.m. opening night of Fair on August 23. This event will feature paired hors d'oeuvres and wines from chefs and wineries across Oregon, along with music by The Libertine Belles and Pepe and the Bottle Blondes. Tickets are $35 and include all food and wine, plus fair admission. At this event, the winners from each category of the wine competition will be announced and presented as Amateur Best of Show.
